All around the world,

Have a glorious Easter!

Easter abroad can be tricky and this year once again was no different from any other one I have experienced abroad.  You start thinking about how you wish you were in Jamaica  getting the real Easter bun, and remembering childhood memories that made Easter so memorable doesn’t help.

Today the box arrived.  My sister is really good about sending us an Easter package each year because where I live, we often can’t get the kind of Easter treats she gets in her hometown.  Yesterday she called and asked, “Di box come yet?”  I said, “No, what box?’  She said, “Mi sen yu box wid  bun an cheese.” I told her it was still early and it might arrive before 4 o’clock.

Laughter and conversation over,  I start looking out for the box.  An hour passed and the doorbell rang and I saw it.. a medium sized box which means more than one bun was in it.   Indeed four buns were in the box with a can of cheese, Coconut Drops, Grater Cake, Ackee, and a big bottle of Solomom Grundy.  Lawd have mercy!

The ritual of unpacking with great excitement and waata mout begins.  "Lawd Jesus,"  I can taste it now," I said.

As we got to the bottom of the box, family members were reaching for the item they wanted to taste first.  Would it be the bun, cheese, or drops?  Everybody in the house is happy and feeling the Easter spirit.

For most Jamaicans abroad this is how they get their Easter celebration on, and if you’re Jamaican, you don’t have to ask what happens after the box is unpacked.  All  I will say is, “Exercise control.”
