Note for Parents:
Summer can be a fun time for the family if you do some strategic planning. Kids do get bored just sitting around, so plan some days where kids can do some activities to keep the brain cells growing. Work with your child to develop a schedule/routine for some fun summer activities. Make a list of things you would like to do and go for it! Look at some of the ideas below.
Sample Summer Schedule for a half day. (You can create a whole day schedule). Remember to schedule each activity for no more than an hour and do not overload your day with too many tasks.
TUESDAY
8:00 - 9:00: Breakfast, dishes, gather materials for the day
9:00 - 9:30: Recreational Reading
9:30 - 10:00: Journal Writing about what was read
10:00 - 11:00: Artist Creation (Create art work using any medium). Relax and enjoy the time to create
something special.
11:00 - 11:15: Break
11:15 - 11:45: Mathscape (Workbooks, worksheets, puzzles,)
11:45 - 12:00: Clean up and get ready for lunch and the rest of the day
OR…
Established a theme for each day of the week. Monday is “Laundry and Library Day,” Tuesday is “Field Trip Day,” Wednesday is “Friend Day,” Thursday is “Sports Day,” and Friday is “Beach Day.” Of course this will be flexible, but having some sort of a system set up helps us to make sure we’re incorporating a variety of activities into our summer.
